Knife Maker Bio

Born 06/01/1976 in Rhodesia. Came to SA in 1996. Currently staying in Pretoria.

I developed the love for art at the age of 7, I believe I inherited the gift from my mother; whose hobby was sketching. In 1993 I had the opportunity of watching an neighbor artist, making shona sculpture on black serpentine stone.  I tried my hand making drawings on stone. My 'appetite' for this form of art was 'whetted'.

I’m a full time scrimshaw artist who makes his own fixed blade knives. In 2007 I became a member of the Knifemaker's Guild of Southern Africa as an associate member specializing in Scrimshaw. I’m proud to be a member of this prestigious guild. I normally use as my 'canvas' ivory substitutes, Hippo tooth and Elephant ivory (legally obtained) and any animal bone. I like doing both color and black and white, using line and stippling method respectively.
