Norman Brandon Hackney

Moerby Forge

PRETORIA, Gauteng

In Norman’s own words

Started dabbling in all things sharp & pointy roughly 2007/2008 with my best bud Francois Labaschagne. We literally started with a small work bench & a vice and files under a mulberry tree in the garden hence where the forge name comes from (Moerby Forge) also a word play in Afrikaans - ons moer by die forge..... we hit at the forge.....

Anyways after much trial & error/ blood & beers we self taught to make all the cool things we make today. Years of practice & slowly building the workshop to what it is now.

I did my first knife show in 2012 - sold one knife (hehe.... was more of a pity buy than anything else) but stuck with it- Been to many others since then with much more success (thank goodness). I got retrenched in 2015 and have been going it full time since then. My bud Franna has unfortunately stopped the art due to personal reasons but I'm still going strong.

Anyways enough B.S. Time to get back to the grind stone or cold beer.......
