Black Dragon Forge | Knifemaking Tools, Equipment & Supplies
Black Dragon Forge is a South African manufacturer and supplier of bladesmithing and knifemaking equipment, based in Lanseria. Established in October 2009 and led by American Bladesmith Society Master Smith Neels van den Berg, we support beginners, hobbyists and professional makers with practical equipment, workshop knowledge and personal service.
While blades are our passion, products are our profession.
Our range includes LPG forges, burners, smelting furnaces, forging hammers and tongs, specialist knifemaking tools, safety gear, refractory materials and casting accessories. We also supply selected timber handle materials through our BLACK SELECT range, handle finishing products, blade care products and sharpening equipment. For makers developing their skills, we offer knife design templates, Damascus build guides, books, online courses and hands-on bladesmithing experiences.
Behind our locally manufactured equipment is our production team: Shawn, Tshulu and Steve. Their combined skills in welding, fabrication, grinding and assembly turn workshop-tested designs into equipment built for regular use. From our forges and furnaces to our grinding jigs and specialist tools, the products we manufacture are made in-house and refined through practical experience and customer feedback.
We understand that choosing equipment is only part of building a workshop. Knowing how to use it matters just as much. We welcome questions, share practical guidance and help customers choose products suited to their work, whether they are preparing to forge their first blade or expanding an established knifemaking business.
